history of violence Indian Mounds by The Withlacoochee River

Exploring some interesting history near the Withlacoochee River, these Indian Mounds are known as Shell Middens. Over hundreds and thousands of years natives discarded shells, bones, pottery and other debris in these areas forming the mounds. They were also places of higher ground, sometimes near villages and used for ceremonial purposes as well. There is a lot of history behind them, these mounds may be associated with the Safety Harbor culture dating back between 900 to 1700's. Known as the Ocale Indians as well but not exactly sure.
