Miscellaneous info about Resto druids in general as well as the gameplay changes in WoD:
Restoration, aka ‘resto’ is the healing specialization available to the Druid class. Resto druids heal their comrades with the use of flora-based magic. Resto druids can sprout plants, cure wounds, and revive a fallen friend from death. Imagery unique to resto druids involves flowers, mushrooms and general greenery in the vicinity of their healing.
In terms of gameplay, the Restoration druid is an anticipatory healer. Heavy reliance on heal-over-time spells (‘hots’) gives the Resto druid the ability to prepare for bad situations by setting up all of these spells before the damage goes out. In Mists of Pandaria and before, many of the restoration druid’s healing spells were instant-cast, allowing them to do much of their healing while moving. In Warlords of Draenor, much of that utility has been reduced across the various healing classes. Spells such as Wild Growth now have a cast time where they didn’t before.
Warlords of Draenor is bringing many changes to the Restoration druid. Resto druids in WoD will have access to fewer of their ‘feral’ like abilities- reasons to shapeshift into other forms will be limited. The Efflorescence effect being tied to Wild Mushroom rather than Swiftmend gives the resto druid more freedom as to where to lay their AOE heal, particularly when the burst healing of the Swiftmend spell is in demand. A restoration druid can no longer stack 3 Lifeblooms on a target, but with the Germination talent at level 100 they can double up on Rejuvenation instead.
In the WoD beta, changes have been made to the Restoration druid but the core gameplay of heal-over-time-spells has been preserved. I see Resto druids continuing to be a popular healing class throughout the Warlords of Draenor expansion.
